The Laboratory of Analysis of Foodstuffs from Animal Origin is specialised in the analysis and toxicology of residues in foods, and particularly in the study of residues of veterinary drugs and growth promoters in meat and offal, fish and milk.
Research is oriented in the fundamental domain as well as in the applied domain with applications in the production, at a pilot stage, of biochemical assay kits for certain residues.
Some of these studies allowed applications in the fields of physicochemistry and of trace analysis of organic compounds in complex biological matrices. Several of our products (reagents, assay kits) are now commercialized by the Centre for Rural Economy (CER) in Marloie.
The laboratory was a participant in the FLAIR concerted action n°8. It serves as a sub contractor for preparing and studying residue-contaminated materials from animal origin in the framework of the production of Certified References Material in the «Standard, Measurement and Testing» program of the European Union.
The Laboratory is approved by regulatory authorities (Institute for Veterinary Inspection, of the Ministry of Public Health, and the Ministry of Agriculture) for the analysis of anabolic and beta-agonist residues. Furthermore, the Laboratory analyses numerous samples in the framework of quality label certification. It regularly collaborates with pharmaceutical companies in residue studies and occasionally, as expert, with courts in Belgium and France.
